Co-operative development grants program
The Co-operative Development Grants Program provides funding for research projects, education and feasibility studies that assist the NSW co-operative sector to grow and remain a viable sector of our economy.
Key dates
Funding is generally provided over a 12 month period, depending on the project. Applications for grants can be made at any time.
Who can apply?
Applications can be made by:

Co-operatives incorporated under the Co-operatives Act 1992 or enterprises/groups wishing to determine the benefits or appropriateness of registering as a co-operative under the Act

Registered trade unions
-
Universities, TAFE and other academic institutions and research bodies

Government agencies, councils or other agencies if the application relates to the core business of those agencies.
What will be funded?
Assistance for potential and newly formed co-operatives in assessing feasibility and enhancing viability through a subsidy of up to 50% of the total project cost. Projects may include strategic/business planning, building/expanding membership, financial planning, feasibility studies and market research.
Funding may also be available for government priority projects normally initiated by or for the Minister and the Office of Fair Trading. These projects will aim to develop the government's co-operatives policy objectives in the NSW economy and promote their formation by highlighting how these organisation can provide alternative means for economic development, social empowerment, equity and social justice in a competitive environment.
How much funding is available?
$100,000 per annum is currently available under this program.
Current priorities
The Office of Fair Trading recognises and values the social and commercial activities that co-operatives contribute towards the NSW economy. Fair Trading is committed to providing information, support and in part funding to co-operatives and eligible groups to conduct research and provide education that assists in the growth and continued viability of the NSW co-operative sector.
