Children's portable folding cots
The Fair Trading Amendment (Children’s Portable Folding Cots) Regulation 2009 is effective from 13 March 2009.
The purpose of this Regulation is to prescribe certain provisions of the Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 2195:1999, Folding cots - safety requirements as the product safety standard for children’s portable folding cots. The Regulation is made under the Fair Trading Act 1987, including sections 26 and 92. Section 26 allows mandatory safety standards to be made that control performance, design or methods of manufacture, of a specific kind of goods supplied in trade or commerce. The purpose of such requirements is to prevent or reduce the risk of injury to a person.
The prescribed safety standard complements the Consumer Product Safety Standard for Children’s Portable Folding Cots that was introduced under the Trade Practices Act 1974 (Commonwealth) on 19 February 2008 as Consumer Protection Notice No. 4 of 2008 which took effect from 1 March 2009.
The folding cots safety standard will capture unincorporated businesses supplying and distributing portable folding cots in NSW.
