Exercise cycles
The Fair Trading Amendment (Exercise Cycles) Regulation 2009 prescribes a product safety standard to regulate exercise cycles.
The safety standard commenced on 18 December 2009 and complements the Commonwealth safety standard for exercise cycles that was introduced on 24 February 1997.
The new safety standard requires suppliers of exercise cycles to comply with certain requirements of Australian Standard AS 4092-1993, Exercise Cycles-Safety Requirements, which relate to the guarding of moving parts and seat integrity.
The standard applies to unincorporated suppliers operating within NSW. The complementary Commonwealth standard applies to incorporated suppliers operating throughout NSW and unincorporated suppliers operating across jurisdictions.
The Regulation was made pursuant to section 26 of the Fair Trading Act 1987 which allows mandatory safety standards to be made.
