CTTT invites visitors to Law Week open days

28 March 2008

NSW Fair Trading Minister, Linda Burney, today invited the public to attend the Consumer, Trader and Tenancy Tribunal’s (CTTT) open days during Law Week.

Law Week is a national event which aims to promote greater understanding of the law, the legal system, the legal profession and our system of justice.

Ms Burney said the CTTT offers cheap, effective and fast access to justice for NSW residents.

The role of the CTTT is to resolve disputes between tenants, landlords, traders and consumers and conducts hearings throughout NSW. It deals with matters relating to home building, tenancy, strata and community schemes, retirement villages and residential parks, motor vehicles, general and commercial matters.

“People usually appear at the CTTT without legal representation and for many the CTTT is their first contact with the legal system, so they need to be prepared,” Ms Burney said.

“Dispute resolution can be a very stressful experience, particularly if you are not fully aware of what to expect.”

“If you are currently in dispute and may be considering using the services of the CTTT or would like to find out more about how it assists 130,000 people across NSW every year, you should attend an open day.”

Ms Burney said visitors will be able to explore the CTTT’s hearing venues, see how the online lodgment service works and learn how conciliation can benefit parties in resolving disputes. They will also have an opportunity to talk to a CTTT member.

“The Law Week open days are part of the CTTT’s commitment to increasing awareness and accessibility to its dispute resolution services.”
