Only buy tickets from Sydney Festival sites
14 January 2010
Fair Trading Minister Virginia Judge today urged consumers to check the Sydney Festival website before purchasing tickets to this year’s events.
Ms Judge said the festival had received reports that some patrons have been overcharged for tickets when buying them from sellers not affiliated with the Sydney Festival.
“Patrons should do their homework and visit official websites before buying tickets to the city’s premier arts, music and cultural festival,” she said.
“If possible buy your tickets directly from the Sydney Festival, Ticketmaster, Ticketek or direct from the entertainment venue.
“If you do this, you can be assured of the authenticity of the ticket as well as knowing you are paying the correct price.
“If they are sold out, make sure you use Sydney Festival prices as a guide when buying tickets from other vendors.
“With only 16 days left, there are still plenty of tickets left.
“As Minister for Fair Trading and the Arts, I do not want consumers to pay more than necessary.
“If you have any doubts about the veracity of the ticket you are purchasing make sure you contact Fair Trading immediately on 13 32 20.”
Ms Judge said the festival was an opportunity for everyone in New South Wales to enjoy the creative industries.
“The Sydney Festival attracts an audience of nearly one million people across all of its events, making it the most attended cultural event in Australia,” she said.
“There are around 80 events with up to 500 artists covering dance, theatre, music, visual arts and cross media.
