NAIDOC Week art competition winners announced
7 July 2010
Fair Trading Deputy Commissioner Steve Griffin today congratulated winners in the 2010 Armidale Fair Trading Centre NAIDOC Week Art Competition.
Mr Griffin encouraged the local community to view all 25 entries, including winning artworks, at Armidale Town Hall, where they will be on display for NAIDOC Week throughout this week.
“All entries and winners will then be displayed at the Armidale Fair Trading Centre until 20 August,” he said.
“The standard of entries was excellent and I am delighted that this competition is again offering local residents the opportunity to celebrate the significance of NAIDOC Week, as well support budding and predominantly young artists.”
The competition is now in its third year and was developed to promote Aboriginal culture and story telling and reinforce the links between NSW Fair Trading and the Aboriginal community.
This year’s entries address the National NAIDOC Week theme Unsung Heroes – Closing the Gap by Leading Their Way.
Mr Griffin said Fair Trading had a long and proud history of supporting Aboriginal communities throughout New South Wales, though its Aboriginal Action Plan.
“I thank our competition sponsors – Armidale Dumaresq Council, Regional Development Australia Northern Inland NSW, Housing NSW, the University of New England’s Oorala Centre, NSW Police Force and Indigenous Business Australia,” he said.
