Fair Trading visits the Hills Shire

19 July 2010

Fair Trading Deputy Commissioner Steve Griffin is urging Hills Shire consumers and business owners to learn more about their rights and responsibilities during this week’s Community Access Program.

Mr Griffin said Fair Trading staff would be carrying out compliance activities, business inspections and promoting consumer services in the Hills Shire from Monday 19 July to Friday 23 July, 2010.

“Community Access Programs take Fair Trading services and workers into the community so consumers know who they can turn to for advice or support if things go wrong,” he said.

Mr Griffin said free information sessions would be held for associations, landlords and managing agents, real estate agents, motor dealers and motor vehicle repairers, home builders and their partners, retail tenants, community workers, members of the Chinese community, seniors, people living in retirement villages, people living in strata and community schemes, council staff, and young people.

“Information stands will be set up at the Vinegar Hill Memorial Library, the Castle Hill Library and the Rouse Hill Town Centre and I encourage residents to take advantage of the opportunity to learn more about the services and support offered by NSW Fair Trading,” he said.

“Fair Trading officers will be undertaking compliance activities including checking licensing at motor dealers and repairers and checking business names at retail outlets.

“Year ten students from Gilroy Catholic College will take part in Money Stuff, a program that teaches teenagers about their consumer rights, including managing finances from an early age. This session will be held from 12.20pm – 1.20pm at the College on Wednesday 21 July.”
