Fair Trading Minister Virginia Judge today announced $226,600 funding for education and training initiatives for the home building industry.
Ms Judge said the funding, provided through Fair Trading’s Home Building Grants Program was being provided to:
- MBA Newcastle Group Training Pty Ltd, $50,000 for the MBA Newcastle Group Training and Personnel project
- Master Builders Association of NSW, $50,000 for an Aboriginal Apprenticeships Scheme for the mid-north coast of NSW
- Home Building Business Centre (Sydney), $38,100 for the Builders’ Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Series project
- Kidsafe NSW Inc, $35,000 for the Safer Windows Campaign project
- Housing Industry Association Ltd, $24,000 for the Green Skills for the Building Industry project and
- Master Plumbers’ Association of New South Wales, $29,500 for the Plumbing Essentials – Open for Business project.
“The funding will support education, training and research programs by either raising consumer awareness or industry standards,” Ms Judge said.
Manager of the Newcastle Master Builder’s Group Apprenticeship Scheme, Michael De Lyall said the ongoing support of Fair Trading had been instrumental to the success of the MBA’s promotion of apprentices.
“We have been able to provide the youth of the region with employment opportunities, as well as support for our industry in fighting skills shortages,” he said.
Ms Judge said NSW Fair Trading was also supporting the home building industry through the delivery of 11 Building Partners Information Sessions for partners and family members of builders and tradespeople.
“These sessions provide valuable information on a range of topics, including: contracts, home warranty insurance, licensing, protection of assets, making sure a business is legal, understanding WorkCover requirements and where to get information,” she said.
“Attendees can earn two continuing professional development (CPD) points for attending the session.”
