Fair Trading Minister Virginia Judge is encouraging partners and family members of licensed builders and tradespeople on the far North Coast to attend a free information session about running a home building business.

When: Tuesday 24 August from 10am -12 noon

Ms Judge said many small and medium sized businesses were managed by partners or family members and there was a real need for practical assistance and support.

“These 2-hour sessions are packed with information on a range of relevant building industry matters, including contract management, asset protection and dispute resolution,” she said.

“WorkCover NSW, Master Builders Association and NSW Industrial Relations will participate, along with experts in licensing and home warranty insurance.

“It also provides a great opportunity for local business people to network over morning tea.”

Ms Judge said the government had received positive feedback from participants at previous sessions, showing they had made a difference to many in the home building industry.

Participant comments have included: “Fantastic morning that gave us a wealth of information.” “We will be changing the way we run our business.” “Excellent coverage of relevant topics.” “Very informative particularly as my husband (licence holder) prefers to leave all areas of office work to me.”

Ms Judge said the Building Partners information sessions were being delivered throughout the year across the state.

“Future sessions are planned for Wollongong, Orange and Gosford, as well as the Sydney metropolitan area,” she said.

“I encourage anyone who handles the administration for a licence holder or home building business to attend a session.”

Two Continuing Professional Development points are available to each attendee.
