Ryobi sliding mitre saw recall

3 September 2010

NSW Fair Trading Deputy Commissioner Steve Griffin today warned the state’s consumers about the voluntary recall of a Ryobi model EMS2431SCL sliding mitre saw with serial numbers 0208000825 to 0509001796 and 072009001797 to 122009002196.

Mr Griffin said 2260 of the saws had been sold through Bunnings retailers throughout Australia from February 2008 to March 2010.

“The saw carries the SGS Certificate of Approval No SGS07/0134,” he said.

“The saws are being recalled by Techtronic Industries Australia Pty Ltd because of a manufacturing defect that makes the product susceptible to fracture in the upper blade guard.

“This defect could expose the user’s hands to the moving blade, causing injury or damage.”

Mr Griffin said consumers should stop using the product immediately.

“People should return the saw to their Bunnings retailer for a replacement or a full refund of the purchase price,” he said.

“They can also contact Techtonic Industries Australia on 1300 361 505 (freecall) and the company will arrange for the saw to be collected and for a refund or replacement to be provided.

“Saws purchased after 20 August are not subject to the recall.”

Mr Griffin said no injuries had been reported anywhere in the world and Techtronic Industries Australia had reported the overall probability of injury occurring was estimated at one in 10,000.

“However, I urge consumers to check the serial numbers if they have one of these products,”she said.
