Consumers urged to heed Mattel recall warning
1 October 2010
NSW Fair Trading has urged consumers to heed a voluntary recall of Mattel children’s products, including high chairs, tricycles, rampways and inflatable ball products.
Mattel has placed recall notice advertisements for the products in papers across the country.
Fair Trading Deputy Commissioner Steve Griffin said his agency would work closely with the Commonwealth to ensure risks to consumers were minimised.
“This is a voluntary recall undertaken by Mattel based on overseas experiences,” Mr Griffin said.
“Fair Trading has no evidence these goods have caused harm to children in NSW, however appropriate action must be taken to ensure this doesn’t change.
“People who have purchased these goods are advised to stop using them immediately and contact Mattel to discuss a refund or replacement,” Mr Griffin said.
The specific items subject to the recall notice are:
- High chairs – Healthy Care (product # B2875, B8866, C4632, G5919, G8659), Close to Me (K3798) and Easy Clean (K3797) high chairs: tray storage pegs on the rear legs pose a laceration hazard.
- Tricycle – Kawasaki Dora the Explorer Tough Trike (K6672) toddler tricycles: the plastic imitation ignition key presents a risk of groin injury.
- Rampway – Little People Wheelies Stand ‘n Play Rampway (T5095,): the wheels can come off, presenting a choking hazard.
- Selected inflatable ball products – Baby Gymtastics Play Wall (H5704), Ocean Wonders™ Kick & Crawl Aquariums (C3068, H8094), Baby Gymtastics™ 1-2-3 Tetherball (J0327) and Baby Gymtastics™ Bat & Score Goal (K0476): The valve on the inflatable ball can present a choking hazard.
