Fair Trading to visit Central Coast during Fair Trading Week

9 November 2010

Fair Trading Deputy Commissioner Steve Griffin is urging Peninsular consumers and business owners to learn more about their rights and responsibilities during next week’s Fair Trading visit to the Central Coast.

Mr Griffin said staff would be conducting compliance activities, business inspections and promoting consumer services in and around the Woy Woy area from Monday 15 to Friday 19 November as part of Fair Trading Week.

“Regional Access Programs are run on a regular basis around the State and bring Fair Trading staff and services into the community, so consumers and traders know who they can turn to for advice or support,” he said.

“Fair Trading inspectors will be carrying out a range of activities, including checking licensing and business name compliance at motor dealers, travel agents, pawnbrokers and secondhand dealers.

“Compliance checks benefit local consumers, lead to better business practices and promote a strong working relationship between Fair Trading and traders, “ he said.

Mr Griffin said local businesses and tradespeople would also benefit from attending presentations that focus on their areas of operation.

“A range of free information sessions are being held for associations, home builders, motor dealers and motor repairers,” he said.

Members of local associations are invited to learn more about the recent legislative reforms.

There will also be an information session for support service providers on consumer rights and scams.

A presentation is planned for the local Aboriginal community about Fair Trading services and assistance available.

Fair Trading officers will also be speaking to tenancy management agents, self managing landlords and tenants about the changes to tenancy laws.
