Fair Trading to visit Merimbula, Bega and Eden during Fair Trading Week
9 November 2010
Fair Trading Deputy Commissioner Steve Griffin is urging consumers and business owners in Merimbula, Bega and Eden to learn more about their rights and responsibilities during next week’s Regional Access Program.
Mr Griffin said staff would be carrying out compliance activities, business inspections and promoting consumer services in the region from Monday 15 to Thursday 18 November as part of Fair Trading Week.
“Regional Access Programs are run on a regular basis around the State and bring Fair Trading staff and services into the community, so consumers and traders know who they can turn to for advice or support,” he said.
“Fair Trading inspectors will be carrying out a range of activities, including checking licensing and business name compliance at motor dealers and by home building tradespeople.
“Compliance checks benefit local consumers, lead to better business practices and promote a strong working relationship between Fair Trading and traders.”
Local businesses and tradespeople will also benefit from attending presentations that focus on their areas of operation.
Mr Griffin said a range of free information sessions are being held for associations, home builders, motor dealers and motor repairers.
“Year 9 and 10 Commerce students from Eden High School and the Lumen Christi Catholic College will also take part in Money Stuff, a program aimed at teaching teenagers about managing their finances from an early age,” he said.
Education is a vital part of the program and Fair Trading staff will be visiting retailers and businesses in Bega, Merimbula, Eden, Pambula and Tathra, delivering publications on Fair Trading services.
“I encourage residents to take advantage of the opportunity to learn more about the services and support offered by NSW Fair Trading,” he said.
