Fair Trading to visit Fairfield

1 April 2011

Fair Trading Deputy Commissioner Steve Griffin is urging consumers and business owners in the Fairfield area to learn more about their rights and responsibilities during next week’s Community Access Program.

Mr Griffin said staff would be carrying out compliance activities, business inspections and promoting consumer services from Monday 4 to Thursday 7 April.

“These programs are run on a regular basis around the state and bring Fair Trading staff and services into the community, so consumers and traders know who they can turn to for advice or support,” he said.

“Fair Trading inspectors will be carrying out a range of activities, including checking licensing and business name compliance at motor dealers and motor vehicle repairers.

“Compliance checks benefit local consumers, lead to better business practices and promote a strong working relationship between Fair Trading and traders.”

Mr Griffin said a range of free information sessions would be held for Fairfield high school students, migrants, real estate agents, landlords, associations, strata owners and operators, home builders and motor dealers and repairers.

Education is a vital part of the program and Fair Trading staff will be visiting local retailers and businesses, delivering publications on Fair Trading services and answering questions and offering advice. Representatives from the Anti Discrimination Board will join Fair Trading staff on visits to local real estate agents on Thursday.

A promotional stand will feature at Fairfield City Council Library during the week and Fair Trading’s mobile community liaison van will be in Spencer Street on Wednesday, between 10am and 3pm, in front of the Fairfield Chase Medical Centre.
