Fair Trading to visit Lightning Ridge and Walgett
23 June 2011
Fair Trading Minister Anthony Roberts is urging Lightning Ridge and Walgett residents to learn more about their rights and responsibilities next week during a four day program of visits and presentations by NSW Fair Trading.
Fair Trading staff will check business compliance and promote Fair Trading services throughout the Lightning Ridge and Walgett areas from Monday 27 to Thursday 30 June.
“These programs are run on a regular basis around the State and bring Fair Trading services into the community, so consumers and traders know who they can turn to for advice and support,” Mr Roberts said.
“Fair Trading inspectors will check licensing and business name compliance at motor dealers and motor vehicle repairers, as well as price scanning and product safety compliance at supermarkets and retailers.
“Compliance checks benefit local consumers, lead to better business practices and promote a strong working relationship between Fair Trading and traders.”
Member for Barwon, Kevin Humphries said local traders and consumers are invited to attend free information sessions on a range of issues, including consumer rights and responsibilities, consumer guarantees, tenancy and how to avoid scams.
To make a booking for one of these sessions call 02 6360 6300.
Mr Humphries said students and community groups will also be the focus of a number of Fair Trading information sessions.
“There will be a Fair Trading information stand at Lightning Ridge Central School and Walgett High School where students can speak with Fair Trading staff about managing their finances, how to buy their first car and what consumer protection laws mean for them,” he said.
“Education is a vital part of the program and Fair Trading staff will be visiting local businesses and community centres delivering publications on Fair Trading services.
“With so many ways to learn more about the services and support offered by NSW Fair Trading, all residents should take advantage of this opportunity.”
