Fair Trading Regional Access Program in Belmont and Swansea

11 August 2011

Fair Trading Minister Anthony Roberts is urging Belmont and Swansea residents to learn more about their rights and responsibilities during a five day program of business checks and presentations by NSW Fair Trading.

Fair Trading staff will check business compliance and promote consumer services in the Belmont and Swansea area from Monday 15 to Friday 19 August.

Mr Roberts said Fair Trading regional access programs are run on a regular basis around the state and bring Fair Trading services and staff into local communities, so consumers and traders know who they can turn to for advice and support.

The Member for Swansea, Garry Edwards, welcomed Fair Trading’s visit and urged local consumers and business owners to get involved.

Mr Edwards said free information sessions on incorporated associations, tenancy, strata, motor vehicle dealing and repairing and residential building would benefit local traders.

“Students, community groups and seniors will also benefit from Fair Trading information sessions on consumer rights and recognising scams,” he said. “Fair Trading staff will visit local businesses and shopping centres, distributing publications and answering questions, delivering Seniors Guides to the Swansea and Belmont Meals on Wheels and product safety information to local childcare centres.”

Mr Edwards said Fair Trading inspectors would check licensing and business name compliance at motor dealers, travel agents, pawn brokers and second hand dealers.

“Compliance checks promote consumer confidence, lead to better business practices and foster a positive working relationship between Fair Trading and traders,” he said.
