Window and balcony safety

Kids Don't Fly campaign

Child at a window fitted with a flyscreenEach year, around 50 children fall from windows or balconies. Many suffer serious injuries. Sometimes these falls are fatal.

The Kids Don't Fly campaign focuses attention on the risk that windows which can open more than 12.5cm pose to children, even if a flyscreen is fitted.

If you are a parent or carer of young children and live in a medium to high rise building, you need to be particularly alert to children playing near windows or unattendended balconies.

To help you take simple steps that could save a child's life, NSW Health has developed a package of resources including a brochure, a window guard product guide, a handy checklist, factsheets and more. Simply visit the Kids Don't Fly page on the Kids Health website to find out more.
