Products subject to NSW safety laws

The products listed in Summary of Safety and Product Information Laws in PDF format (size: 672kb) are subject to safety laws in NSW.

Fair Trading investigators conduct year round surveys of the marketplace. The maximum penalties under the Fair Trading Act for supplying or selling unsafe or non-compliant products are $22,000 for individuals, and $110,000 for corporations.

All the unsafe products detected during these surveys are removed from sale. The unsafe products detected during our surveys are as follows:

Bicycle helmets
Candleholders and decorations
Cigarette lighters
Interior curtains, blinds and tracks
Knives – toy or novelty
Laser pointers
Luggage straps – elastic
Treadmills
