Selling sunglasses

Sunglasses and fashion spectacles

Do you manufacture, import, or sell new or second-hand sunglasses and fashion spectacles?

Sunglasses and fashion spectacles supplied in NSW must comply with certain requirements of the Australian/New Zealand Standard, AS/NZS 1067:2003 - Sunglasses and fashion spectacles.

This means that if you supply sunglasses or fashion spectacles, whether you are a retailer, distributor, or importer, you are responsible for ensuring that they comply with the mandatory standard for sunglasses and fashion spectacles set out in Australian Consumer Law. Failure to do so is an offence subject to a maximum penalty of $220,000 for an individual or $1,100,000 for a corporation.
