Co-operatives legislation provides guidance for the establishment of co-operatives and the regulation of their operations and for related purposes.

The Registry administers the following legislation and the relevant regulations in relation to co-operatives, co-operative housing societies and Starr-Bowkett societies:

• Co-operatives Act 1992
• Co-operatives Regulation 2005
• Co-operative Housing and Starr-Bowkett Societies Act 1998
• Co-operative Housing and Starr-Bowkett Societies Regulation 2005

Certain provisions of the Corporations Act 2001 have also been applied by this legislation.

Prescribed forms are those forms set out in Schedule 7 of the Co-operatives Regulation 2005.

Approved forms are those forms approved by the Registrar for the lodgement of information required by the legislation where no form has been prescribed.
