Skip to contentMost licences granted in other states and territories are recognised in NSW. Under this mutual recognition system, a person who is registered to practise an occupation (such as carpentry) in one state or territory is entitled to practise an equivalent occupation in another state or territory, after notifying the local registration authority.
To find out what a particular licence is equivalent to in another state or territory, use the Equivalent Licence Search on the Licence Recognition website www.licencerecognition.gov.au
For a form and explanatory notes for applying for a licence to undertake residential building work in NSW under mutual recognition, refer to the mutual recognition document.
Further information on mutual recognition is available on the NSW Cabinet Office website.
