Flooring

Effective 16 September 2009, non-structural flooring work is no longer regulated under the Home Building Act in NSW. This means that flooring work is no longer licensed separately by Fair Trading.

This was an initiative of the Better Regulation Office in order to reduce red tape for businesses.

Non-structural flooring would apply to the installation of any material permanently installed as an upper layer and wearing surface of a floor and is not load-bearing.

For load-bearing timber floors, refer to the information on the Carpentry licence class. Anyone who currently holds a flooring licence for the purpose of installing structural floors will be contacted by Fair Trading in the near future to discuss migration to a new licence class, or you can contact Fair Trading on 13 32 20.

Licensees who held the class of Flooring up to 16 September 2009 may be eligible for a refund of their application/renewal fees. You may only be considered for a refund if you do not hold any other Home Building licence classes. To apply for a refund, complete the Refund Request form in pdf format (size: 18kb).
