Rental Bonds Online 

 

Property agents & self-managing landlords must register for Rental Bonds Online by 30 January 2017


From 30 January 2017, property agents and self-managing landlords must be registered with Rental Bonds Online. Agents and landlords must also offer the service to new tenants as the first option for lodgement of their bond. What is Rental Bonds Online? 

Rental Bonds Online is a new service that helps tenants, agents and self-managing landlords lodge and refund bond money easily and securely.

The service is a fast and convenient way for agents to:

  • lodge, view and refund claim residential rental bonds online without having to send cheques and paper forms
  • receive email and SMS phone notifications confirming what is happening to a rental bond
  • view notifications and key tasks awaiting your action within Rental Bonds Online.

How can I get started? 

The steps to get your agency set up with Rental Bonds Online are as follows:

  1. Your agency registers by submitting the Rental Bonds Online Agency Registration Form (PDF size: 85Kb). On this form, the licensee in charge will need to provide the details of the person in your agency who will be the principal user.
  2. NSW Fair Trading sends an email to the principal user requesting that they activate their log on. They will also be emailed an information kit which includes guidance on how to set up Rental Bonds Online.
  3. The principal user configures Rental Bonds Online for your agency and creates logons for staff within your agency.
  4. Individual agency staff are now able to use Rental Bonds Online and can refer to the information kit, online help or Rental Bonds Online Security and Support for assistance if needed.

Supporting tenants to use Rental Bonds Online 

Once you are registered to use Rental Bonds Online you can start inviting tenants to use the service to manage their rental bond.  You will need to confirm that the tenant is both willing to use Rental Bonds Online and has internet access, a mobile phone, email, an Australian bank or credit union account and a payment method (BPAY, Visa or Mastercard).

Getting help with Rental Bonds Online 

If you are already registered as a user of Rental Bonds Online, you can log on to https://rbo.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/agent/login to access online help. This will guide you through processes such as how to lodge a bond and how to make a claim.
