It is also advisable to notify all clients, verbally or in writing, that your licence has been cancelled or suspended and you are unable to complete any unfinalised work to which the licence or certificate relates.
For licences or certificates under the Property, Stock and Business Agents Act 2002 or the Conveyancers Licensing Act 1995, Fair Trading can assist where it is necessary to make alternative arrangements concerning incomplete real estate transactions particularly where client funds are involved.
If you held a licence or tradesperson certificate issued under the Motor Vehicle Repairs Act 1980 you should also refund any monies paid in advance for work you will not be able to complete and permit clients to retrieve their motor vehicles subject to any right of lien for work already completed.
If you held a licence issued under the Motor Dealers Act 1974, for any consignment sales, you should return any unsold motor vehicles to the owners and refund owners the net sale proceeds concerning sold vehicles.
If you held a licence issued under the Pawnbrokers and Second-hand Dealers Act 1996, it is particularly important that you provide verbal or written notification to those clients whose goods are being held for which the redemption period has not yet expired. Please note that Fair Trading has the power to make orders in relation to the redemption of goods held in the course of that business.
If you were disqualified from holding a licence issued under the Travel Agents Act 1986, or from being involved in the direction, management or conduct of business as a travel agent, immediately before the repeal of that Act, that disqualification remains in effect for the period of the disqualification. For this purpose, Section 4 of the Travel Agents Act 1986 and clauses 4 and 5 of the Travel Agents Regulation 2011, despite the repeal of that Act and that Regulation, continue to apply.
