An electrical licence is required before any electrical wiring work can be undertaken in NSW. This applies regardless of its cost and whether the work is residential, commercial or industrial. The following pages provide information for electrical licence holders and anyone looking to qualify for an electrical licence.

In December 2014 Automatic Mutual Recognition laws commenced allowing specific licensed Electricians from Queensland, Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory to work in NSW without obtaining a NSW licence. For more details or if you’re a NSW Electrician working in any of these states, refer to the Automatic Mutual Recognition – East Coast Electricians page.
