Minor trade work 

For licensing purposes, the class minor trade work refers to works involving new, repair or replacement work which cannot be readily ascribed to an individual specific trade area.

Qualifications

3.  RII31009 Certificate III in Bituminous Surfacing; or

4.  BCG10103 Certificate I in General Construction with the following electives and additional units:

  1. BCGVE1001B Handle construction materials; and
  2. BCGVE1002B Undertake a basic construction project; and
  3. BCGVE1004B Undertake basic estimation and costing; and
  4. BCCCM2002B Use small plant and equipment; and
  5. BCCCM2007B Spread and compact materials manually; and
  6. BCCBS2001B Conduct tack coat spraying operations; and
  7. BCCBS2003B Safely handle bituminous materials; and

Ducting / Mechanical ventilation 

1.  A minimum of two years acceptable practical experience in carrying out ducting or mechanical ventilation work verified in the Relevant Application Form; and

2.  Undertake a Licence Skills Assessment conducted by the Building Industry Skills Centre.

Applicants who are referred to the Building Industry Skills Centre to undergo an assessment will be subject to an assessment fee charged by the Skills Centre.

Garage doors 

Effective 16 September 2009 the installation of garage doors is no longer regulated under the Home Building Act in NSW. This means that the installation of garage doors is no longer licensed by NSW Fair Trading.

This was a Better Regulation Office initiative to reduce red tape for businesses.

Other (including installation of solid fuel heaters)  

‘Minor Trade Work-Other’ only covers residential building work involving new, repair or replacement work which cannot be readily ascribed to an individual specific trade area.

1.  Completion of CPC10111 Certificate I in Construction, including:

  1. CPCCCM2004A Handle construction materials; and
  2. CPCCCM1011A Undertake basic estimation and costing; and
  3. either:
    (i)   For installation of solid fuel heaters (fireplaces) the additional units are CPCPCM2043A Carry out WHS requirements and CPCPMS3041A Install domestic solid fuel burning appliances; or
    (ii)  Additional units must be completed to support the type of minor trade work to be undertaken; or
    (iii) Where there are no relevant units, training by the relevant manufacturer, industry or supplier, must be completed.

Previous licence and supervisor certificate holders 

Reissue of expired unconditioned licences and supervisor certificates

If you have ever held a licence or supervisor certificate in the current prescribed categories (Home Building Regulation 2014, clauses 13 and 14, excluding clause 13(a)(ii)) that was not subject to restrictions or conditions and you apply for a new licence or supervisor certificate, your previous licence or certificate will be accepted in lieu of the current qualification requirements.

Reissue of expired licences and supervisor certificates held in the last five (5) years that were subject to conditions or restrictions

If you have held a licence or supervisor certificate in the last five (5) years that was subject to restrictions or conditions in the prescribed categories (Home Building Regulation 2014, clauses 13 and 14, excluding clause 13(a)(ii)), we will assess your application and reissue you a licence or certificate that reflects the scope of work that your licence or certificate covered. This may include being subject to conditions or restrictions.
