    What’s this about?

NSW Fair Trading is reviewing the Mutual Recognition (Automatic Licensed Occupations Recognition) Act 2014 to ensure that it is still fit for purpose and achieving its intended policy objectives.

The Act establishes a ‘driver's licence model' for occupational licences. It allows licences issued in one jurisdiction to be recognised automatically by another jurisdiction - without the licence holder having to obtain a local licence or pay an additional licence fee.

Currently, only electrical trade work licences in the ACT, Victoria, Queensland and NSW are recognised under the scheme.

    What’s happened so far?

As part of the review process, a discussion paper has been released to gain feedback on people's experiences with mutual recognition for licenced occupations. This discussion paper provides an opportunity for interested parties in NSW to express their views or concerns. The NSW Government wants to hear from electricians, the building industry, and members of the public.

The review is an opportunity for electricians in particular to share their experiences. Your feedback will help us to determine what, if any, changes may help ensure that the legislation achieves its objectives, operates effectively, and meet the needs of the community.

    Next steps

Read the discussion paper and then complete the online form below. The discussion paper explains the Act and how it was intended to work.

Once the consultation period has closed, all comments and submissions will be carefully analysed. A review report will then be submitted to the Minister for Better Regulation and Innovation and a report on the review will be tabled in Parliament later this year.

If you do not want your submission to be published online, please indicate this clearly in your submission. Even if you say that you do not want us to publish it, we may be required to by law.
