Have your say

The 2014 Lacrosse building fire in Melbourne and the tragic Grenfell fire in London in June 2017 have highlighted the fire safety risks arising from the non-compliant use of potentially hazardous aluminium cladding on buildings.

The Senior Officers Group (SOG) is a strategic policy advisory group made up of senior building and construction polcy officers from each jurisdiction and the Commonwealth. SOG has developed four options for a permanent new labelling system for aluminium composite panel (ACP) products to prevent the use of non-compliant building product substitution.

The four options are:

  1. An information plate permanently attached to a high-rise building
  2. A permanently etched or stamped motif or permanent label on an external facing façade panel
  3. Use of covert data marking technology
  4. Maturation of current reviews and reforms

These options are discussed in a discussion paper.

The SOG welcomes submissions from all interested stakeholders on the proposed options.
