Individual applicants - Building work category

You should use the Applicant’s Checklist for Individual Applicants for General Building Work if you are an individual applying for a licence or qualified supervisor certificate in the category of General Building Work.

Individual applicants - other building and trade work categories

You should use the Applicant’s Checklist for Individual Applicants for Other Building and Trade Work Categories if you are an individual applying for any of the following categories:

  • Erection of pre-fabricated metal-framed home additions and structures
  • Kitchen, bathroom and laundry renovation
  • Structural landscaping
  • Swimming pool building
  • Bricklaying
  • Carpentry
  • Decorating
  • Dry plastering
  • Excavating
  • Fencing
  • General concreting
  • Glazing
  • Joinery
  • Metal fabrication
  • Minor maintenance and cleaning
  • Minor tradework
  • Painting
  • Roof plumbing
  • Roof slating
  • Roof tiling
  • Stonemasonry
  • Swimming pool repairs and servicing

Individual applicants - Specialist work categories

You should use the Applicant’s Checklist for Individual Applicants for Specialist Work Categories if you are an individual applying for any of the following categories:

  • Electrical wiring work
  • Air-conditioning work
  • Refrigeration work
  • Plumbing work
  • Draining work
  • Gasfitting work
  • Medical gas
  • Liquefied petroleum gasfitting work
  • Advanced liquefied petroleum gasfitting work
  • Water plumbing work
  • Water plumbing—fire protection systems
  • Water plumbing—fire sprinkler systems
  • Water plumbing—urban irrigation,
  • Disconnection and reconnection of fixed electrical equipment

If you are applying for the category of Electrical, you can start your application online through the Service NSW website. This application is only for individuals.

Individual applicants - Mutual recognition

You should use the Home Building Mutual Recognition Application form if you are an individual applying under the Mutual Recognition Act (New South Wales) Act 1992 or the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition (New South Wales) Act 1996 in any category of work.

Company and partnership applicants

You should use the Applicant’s Checklist for a Company or Partnership if you are a company or partnership applying for a Home Building licence in any category of work.
