Community and neighbourhood schemes

About community schemes

Community schemes range from rural subdivisions to large closed communities with private roads, high security and recreational facilities.

If you live in a community or neighbourhood scheme, Fair Trading provides a number of services. Download a copy of the Living in a Community Scheme brochure (PDF, 469.34 KB) and the community and neighbourhood scheme forms.

Fair Trading also provides a mediation service for disputes before they are referred to a Community Schemes Adjudicator or the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

A position paper has been released which outlines 58 proposed community schemes law reforms.

Disposal of uncollected goods

From 1 July 2020, the Uncollected Goods Act 1995 can be used to dispose of goods left behind or abandoned by an occupant or resident at the end of an agreement.

See uncollected goods for more information on the rules for the disposal of goods.
