Key information
- In NSW, you need auctioneer accreditation to conduct auctions of property, land (including rural land) or livestock.
- You must hold a real estate agent licence or a stock and station agent licence (Class 1 or Class 2), and complete specific training to be eligible for this accreditation.
- Auctioneer accreditation will continue to be applied to your licence while it is valid, if successfully renewed on or before expiry, or restored within 3 months of expiry.
- An assistant stock and station agent can auction livestock if they are employed and directly supervised by a licensed stock and station agent.
When auctioneer accreditation is needed
You must have auctioneer accreditation if you want to conduct auctions as a real estate agent or a stock and station agent for:
- property
- land, or
- livestock (such as horses, cattle, or sheep).
Eligibility
There are requirements you must meet to gain accreditation as an auctioneer.
Who can apply
You must meet the following criteria:
- You hold a class 1 or class 2 real estate agent licence and/or a stock and station agent licence.
- You have completed the specified auctioneer units from the Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice (CPP41419) with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
Who cannot apply?
Class 1 or class 2 agents who have a business agent restriction or an on-site residential property manager restriction as a condition of their licence cannot apply.
Assistant real estate and stock and station agents cannot get auctioneer accreditation. Assistant stock and station agents can only auction livestock if they are employed and directly supervised by a licensed stock and station agent.

Renew or restore your accreditation
If your application to renew or restore your real estate agent licence or stock and station agent licence is successful, any conditions on the licence will continue to apply. This means you can continue to act as an auctioneer if you’re accredited to do so.
You must renew your real estate agent licence or stock and station agent licence on or before the licence expiry date.
If your licence expired less than three months ago, you can restore it online (for a fee ), or at your nearest Service NSW Centre.
If you do not renew and restore on time, you may need to reapply.

Important: Accreditation is not automatically granted if you previously held auctioneer’s licence or attended auction training in the past. You will need to apply if your agent licence has expired.
