Please note the important fee information below.
- If you apply for registration across different licence types as a Professional Engineer, Design Practitioner or Building Practitioner, you are required to pay the fees for each licence type. This applies regardless of whether you apply for registration in the same application. For example, if you apply for a 1 year registration as a Professional Engineer at a cost of $663, and as a Design Practitioner – Fire Safety Engineer at a cost of $454, the total fee payable is $1117 ($663 + $454).
- If you apply for registration in two or more classes within each licence type in the same application, the fee payable is the fee for the class with the highest fee amount. For example, if you apply for a 1 year Professional Engineer – Fire Safety at a cost of $663, and as a Design Practitioner – Fire Safety at a cost of $454, and as a Design Practitioner – Fire Systems (mechanical and smoke control) at a cost of $494, the total fee payable is $1157 ($663 + $494). In this example, the fee for registration as a Design Practitioner - Fire Safety Engineering registration doesn’t apply as it is the lower of the two fee amounts for registration in a class of Design Practitioner. - Design Practitioners and Building Practitioners must complete two mandatory online learning modules before registering. The fees are $140 per module and are payable when you purchase the course online at https://training.tafensw.edu.au/constructnsw. These modules don’t need to be completed every time you renew your registration – only before you register the first time.
- The processing fee, a component of the total fee, is not refundable if your application is refused or withdrawn.
- If your registration is cancelled as a result of disciplinary action, we will not refund any of the fees paid.

Varying your registration
You can apply to have your existing registration varied to add a new class. Depending on what class you wish to add there will be a non-refundable fee.
For example, if you currently hold a Design Practitioner registration and want to add an additional class to that registration type, you can apply through the same process as if you were applying for a new registration and you will be charged a variation fee.
If you are a registered Building Practitioner and want to add a Design Practitioner registration, you are not eligible for a variation and the associated fee. This is because you are applying for two different registration types and will need to pay the new registration fee for each application.

Renewing or restoring a registration
- Renewal applications must be lodged on or before the expiry date of your current registration.
- Restoration applications must be lodged within 3 months of the registration expiry date of your current registration. If the registration is expired for a period exceeding 3 months, you will need to lodge a new application for registration.
