Advisory note03/2021
ForLicensed contractors working in the gasfitting and building industry
ScopeApplies to all metropolitan and regional areas in NSW

What is the non-compliance?

During recent audits of Class 2 buildings by NSW Fair Trading, gas connection points for hose assemblies (namely quick-connect device sockets or gas bayonet fittings) are frequently installed in a non-compliant location.

The general installation requirements for the location of connection points for hose assemblies are set out in AS/NZS 5601 Part 1, clause 5.9.3. More information is also available in sections 5.9 and 5.10 in AS/NZS 5601 Part 1.

Location of connection point for hose assembly

According to AS/NZS 5601 Part 1, clause 5.9.3, a connection point for a hose assembly shall be located:

(a) to avoid traffic across the hose, and

(b) at least 1 metre away from a doorway in a building.

Note: Where flueless space heaters are permitted by the relevant jurisdiction, there may be a requirement that fixed ventilation openings be provided. Consideration should be given to providing such openings when installing the connection point. See Appendix N for details.
